Collaboration Works!
Whether co-funding research or helping to spread awareness, CAC2 members are teaming up at both the local and national level. Share your story with us so we can feature it on our website and in newsletters. Tell us how you are working with other CAC2 member and how it has strengthened your efforts.  Include details but don’t worry about writing a masterpiece, we will edit the copy!
Website 2.0
Thanks to the efforts of Joe McDonough, the CAC2 website launched Sept 1, 2013.  Joe passed the torch to board member, Julie Sutherland, in December after the installation of the inaugural board of directors.  The Website and Communications Committees have been working to identify target areas for improvement and streamlining on the CAC2 website to facilitate our mission.
Members interested in joining the website committee to help out, may contact Julie Sutherland or Maureen Lilly at or
Projects, Tracks and Teams
Project Incubator – New CAC2 Project For Member Consideration
New CAC2 projects require the endorsement and support of our members.   At the CAC2 Inaugural meeting last summer, members reviewed and endorsed the Childhood Cancer Event Map project for highlighting September activities, programs, and events. The map was posted on CAC2 and shared by many members on their websites and social media, resulting in increased publicity and event participation!   View the 2013 map here,
We have a proposal to upgrade and extend the Childhood Cancer Event Map and Calendar.
Activities and events will be updated, maintained, and distributed year round in a way the general public and media sources can easily access and share.  The estimated start-up cost of the project is $1500.
Provide your input or endorsement of this idea by February 17th at
Advocacy Track Bi-monthly calls
A CAC2 Advocacy Track call was held on February 4, with more than 30 participants. The purpose of the bi-monthly calls is to provide a free exchange of information about legislative initiatives supported by pediatric cancer advocates.
During this call, updates were shared on several pieces of legislation and initiatives, implementation of the Creating Hope Act and the Affordable Care Act, and The Truth 365 awareness campaigns for legislative initiatives.  See complete meeting notes here
The next call of the Advocacy Track will be Tuesday, April 8, 12:00 noon – 1:00 p.m. EST.  To register for the call, please send your name and email address to Nancy Goodman at
Hope Portal Update
The CAC2 Online Resource Guide subcommittee and representatives from Children’s Hospital of LA (CHLA) continue to meet weekly. The CHLA webmaster is developing the agreed upon enhancements to the Hope Portal ( ) and the review process for accepting new resources has also been defined.  The team plans to begin adding resources (organizations, agencies, etc.) in March, 2014.  We will let you know as soon as online applications are available.
We are seeking 6 CAC2 volunteers to join the CAC2 Review Process team in February. After volunteers are fully trained, we anticipate that each volunteer will review two Resource applications per week, which should take no more than 2 hours per week. Please contact Jennifer Louis: to learn more about this opportunity. We hope you will join us in creating an extremely valuable tool for families and medical providers!
September Study Group Update
The September Study Group has been researching and collating information on the activities of CAC2 member and non-member organizations during Childhood Cancer Awareness Month 2013. We will be presenting ideas that CAC2 members might want to take on in 2014 to enhance the work being done in September and to increase the impact of the Awareness Month.
The Study Group will host a full-membership call on February 20th, from Noon – 1:00 ET.  To register for the call, please send your name and email address to Trish Kriger at
